We believe that our communities thrive when we create equal access to opportunity for small business owners. Through the DoorDash Accelerator for Local Restaurants, we are improving access to technical assistance and restaurant education that will help small businesses adapt, grow, and thrive.

Together, DoorDash and Accion Opportunity Fund, along with other restaurant industry experts, constructed a curriculum that provides restaurant owners with immersive courses designed to help grow their business, covering topics such as marketing, access to capital, managing cash flow and menu creation. To-date, over 1,000 businesses have participated.

Fall 2022 Cohort

We’ve partnered with the Hispanic Restaurant Association - Denver Chapter and the Black Business Association of Oregon to bring the Accelerator for Local Restaurants to Denver, Colorado and Portland, Oregon!

Meet the new cohort of 40 Accelerator participants, all based in the greater Portland and Denver areas. The Accelerator participants represent a diverse cohort of restaurateurs and business owners, the majority of whom are women, immigrants, and people of color.

Program Impact

Since the Accelerator was announced in early 2021, more than 1,000 businesses have completed the online content, and more than 115 restaurateurs from 6 cities have completed the Accelerator through local cohorts guided by some of the industry’s most recognized entrepreneurs and chefs. These local cohorts participants represent a diverse cohort of restaurateurs and business owners.

"Support from DoorDash came at just the right time. Like many other small businesses, our operations were turned upside down at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic … Putting the business education and skills we learned in the Accelerator curriculum into practice, we’re back on our feet."

–Waleed and Quiana Shamsid-Deen, owners of Supreme Burger in Atlantic, GA and former Accelerator participants. After completing the curriculum and receiving a $20,000 grant, Waleed and Quiana opened two more food trucks and another storefront.

Previous cohorts were comprised of 90% people of color and the vast majority of participants were also women, immigrants, and refugees.
